Nightmares

ravishingjane — Thu, 05/17/2012 - 15:07

A couple of nights ago Screamers awoke in the middle of the night not screaming, but shrieking.  It was a terrible sound.  It was a loud sound.  It was the sound of something terribly wrong.  G-Sauce was in his room so fast that I swear he must have left his body for a moment to get there.  I staggered in a few steps behind thinking Screamers must have wet the bed and some help would be needed with changing his bedding.  He was dry, but crying about spiders and scary monsters.  Nightmare much, boy?  I think this may have been his first real one and I was reminded of my earliest memory…

I was about Screamers age when I had my own scary dream.  Like Screamers, my dream was also about spiders and scary monsters.  To clarify, Screamers refers to skeletons as monsters and in my dream it was the skeletal version of monsters.  I remember being about his age (near 3) because from this dream I was afraid of the dark until much older.  Also, my toddler rocking chair made an appearance with a skeleton rocking away, forever making me think twice about sitting in my little chair.

Basically the dream was like a cart ride on a track.  There were spiders and gooey bugs EVERYWHERE and every now and again there would be a skeleton looking at me.  It was dark and I was alone.  I remember feeling very scared.  It must have been very scary to me because my next earliest memory isn't until a good year or so later.

He seems to be handling his dream better than I took to mine.  He's not wanting to sleep with the light on and he's certainly not afraid to get out of bed when it's dark.  I do wonder if it will be his first memory.
